Herman Miller is an American furniture company that was founded in 1923. The company is best known for their Eames Chair which was designed in 1956 and has been a popular design ever since. The company also produces office furniture, seating, tables, and lighting.

The Herman Miller Company was founded by D.J. De Pree in 1923 as the Herman Miller Furniture Company. He wanted to create modern furniture for the masses at affordable prices. In 1928 he hired a new employee named Charles Eames who would go on to become one of the most influential designers of the 20th century. Their first major collaboration was the molded plywood chair which would be renamed as the “Eames Lounge Chair.”

In 1951, Charles Eames and Eero Saarinen joined the company, which had grown from a small family business to a large corporation by then. The duo had already made their mark on the design world with their groundbreaking designs of chairs such as the “Womb chair” and “Rocking chair”. They became partners of Herman Miller in 1958, designing many iconic pieces including office furniture such as desks, conference room tables and seating systems.
